The problem started without any new updates to software having occurred that I am aware of.
I am running Windows 7, Windows firewall, AVG antivirus. If I create a new profile and copy all my messages (and some other settings) over from the old profile, TB freezes when it starts checking the mail again.
I have tried creating a new profile - if I start from scratch (no mail or accounts), once I set up my Yahoo account it starts downloading all my Yahoo messages (without need for the Webmail extension even though set on secure connection I have not checked with other POP accounts) I stopped this since didn't want to go through all that again. I have tried reinstalling TB 8 on top of current install in case that would help to repair any files - I have not tried a totally fresh install. Freezing happens even with all add-ons disabled (I use Webmail add-on for Yahoo plus some others). I have deleted msf files, tried using Safemode but neither of these helped. However, TB eventually freezes afterwards. I think it is Yahoo causing the issue since the other POP account (corporate not a free webmail) now seems to work OK - no longer downloads old messages, just new ones (when I selectively ask TB to check this account first). [Note: interestingly the problem seemed to affect one Yahoo account and one corporate account only a second Yahoo account and my Gmail account did not download all old messages and both show messages having been received since the problem began). working off-line does not seem to cause the freezing. TB is protected by a master password - when I first start up everything works fine, but when I enter the passwords and it starts to connect to the POP servers then it freezes i.e. Since then, TB has started freezing as described by others in this post, although it happens after a delay.
I let it do this thinking that all would be fine afterwards, but No. all those I had downloaded before plus any new ones. About 2 days ago (Mon 28/11) when I started the app, TB started downloading all my e-mail messages from Yahoo and another POP servers i.e. I upgraded to TB 8.0 (French) about a week ago and initially did not experience problems. (other users can try starting in offline mode to see if they can use TB without the freezing - perhaps it freezes if starting to check messages on start-up) I am posting as another user experiencing the same/similar problem.
